I don’t think I’m in the minority when I say that The Weather Channel’s (TWC) TV presence has decreased in usefulness over the past few years. DirecTV has noticed based on the channels their subscribers watch. I can’t say I’ve found critically useful information on TWC in the past three or four years. If severe weather is occurring near me, they’re not talking about it on TWC, but my local TV stations do. Beyond that I have weather.gov and apps on my phone that show me radar and other weather information.
Right now DirecTV is not carrying TWC due to a contract dispute over the rates. I understand TWC’s need for revenue, but to be a viable channel, they also need to provide valuable information. If you don’t provide what consumers want, then you will disappear. It’s happened before, and it will happen again. I don’t see pertinent weather information on TWC, especially when severe weather is in my area, so they either need to adapt or find a new niche.
As a DirecTV subscriber, I don’t want to pay any more for TWC than I need to.
